THE
Federal Government’s search for an end to the insecurity in the land
was taken to another level, on Thursday, as government asked
stakeholders in states reeling under the prevalent acts of terrorism to
reach out to contacts of the insurgent sect, Boko Haram and get them to
embrace the fresh dialogue initiative.
This was the message of the National
Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd), to stakeholders in Kano
and Kaduna on Thursday, in continuation of his advocacy visits to states
in the North where the sect’s activities had been manifestly
pronounced.
In Kano, Dasuki met with Governor Rabiu
Musa Kwankwaso, members of his cabinet and lawmakers, including
Honourables Mannir Babba Danagundi, Nasiru Baballe, Aminu Suleiman,
Nasiru Ali Ahmed, Mohd Bashir Galadanchi and Bashir Baballe.
A source on the NSA’s dialogue trip
disclosed that Dasuki also met with Commandants of Army, Prison,
Immigration, Civil Defence, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, major
traditional rulers in the state as well as political and religious
leaders.
Before the stakeholders’ meeting in Kano
on Thursday, Dasuki had taken his advocacy to Jos, Plateau State and
Daura in Katsina, State on Wednesday, where he also met with a
cross-section of stakeholders.
The advocacy tour started last week with visits to Potiskum and Damaturu in Yobe State and Maiduguri in Borno State.
The source noted that Dasuki finished late in Katsina on Wednesday night before proceeding to Kano early on Thursday morning.
As of press time, it was learnt that the NSA’s meeting with stakeholders in Kaduna was ongoing.
He reportedly told the gathering of the
central government’s preparedness to work with the state governments and
other stakeholders in resolving the lingering security challenges,
emphasising the need for leaders at the meetings to prevail on their
wards to abstain from acts that could put the nation’s peace and
security at risk.
At the heart of his message was a specific
demand to stakeholders to reach out to all known contacts of the Boko
Haram sect and make them see reasons why they should embrace the latest
dialogue initiative.
