Oil Subsidy Cabal’s Plot to Rubbish Aig Imoukhuede’s Report Uncovered!!
*** Jonathan Directs EFCC to Arrest Subsidy Thieves

Access Bank MD, Aigboje Aig - Imoukhuede
The powerful oil marketers in the country who have been indicted in the report of the House of Reps Ad-Hoc Committee probe panel on the fuel subsidy management are really fighting hard to discredit the report.
After falling into a USD3 Million bribe trap which has messed up his image, Hon. Farouk Lawan , the suspended Chairman of the House of Reps Ad-Hoc Committee probe panel left a room for observers and some industry players to question the credibility of the probe exercise.
But president Jonathan’s desire to clean up the oil sector and expose the fraudsters in the industry made him to set up a Presidential Committee to verify and reconcile petroleum subsidy payments. The presidential committee is headed by the Group Managing Director of Access Bank Plc, Mr Aigboje Aig – Imoukhuede.
According to information reaching us, Mr Imoukhuede submitted his findings to President Goodluck Jonathan few days ago. Our sources in the Presidency told us that the outcome of the report is mind boggling as it exposed a lot of powerful and influential oil businessmen in the country that collected millions of dollars to import petroleum products without delivering a litre of the products.
The source revealed that the President immediately directed the Attorney General of the Federation, Muhammed Adoke and the Acting Chairman of the Economic Crimes and Financial Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute the oil subsidy rogues.
Emboldened by the President’s directive, on Sunday, July 8, 2012, the Anthorney General told the media that the oil subsidy thieves will face the full wrath of the law.
Investigations however shows that the members of the oil subsidy cabal are now jittery, as we gathered that some of them are planning to flee the country. But eagle eye operatives of the EFCC are said to be monitoring the oil thieves indicted in the Aig – Imoukhuede’s report and will soon be clamped into detention centers.
But the oil subsidy cabal will not surrender easily and they have plotted to fight back.
The strategy they employed is to discredit the Aig – Imoukhuede’s report by fabricating and concocting stories for the media, so that the public opinion will sway against the report.
Three days ago, the media, especially the on-line media and some social networking sites reported that Mr Aig – Imoukhuede’s owns a company called Ice Energy and Petroleum Trading Company Limited with its office at Lake Chad Crescent, Maitama, Abuja. It was alleged that Ice Energy Petroleum Trading Company Limited collected USD2, 131, 166.32 (N345. 3 m) in 2011 and did not import petroleum products.
The news took many by surprise and wondered why Aig – Imoukhuede could be allowed to head a Presidential Committee when ‘his own oil company’ is also ‘guilty’ of the offence he is expected to make recommendations.
But facts and documents obtained by us have shown that the Access Bank MD has nothing to do with the oil company and that the oil company was even wrongly included in the Farouk Lawan’s report without any just cause in the first instance.
The Corporate Affairs Commission documents show that Ice Energy and Petroleum Trading Company is owned by these individuals; Mr Iroche Chucks (5, 000, 000 shares), Mr Aig – Imoukhuede Aieboubioise (3, 000, 000 shares) and Aikhinbare Sam (1, 000, 000 shares).
However, Aig – Imoukhuede Aieboubioise has been reported to be the younger brother of the Access Bank MD.
Even as it stands that Aigboje’s younger brother is one of the owners of the oil company, documents obtained have established that Ice Energy was actually given the contract to import petroleum products worth N345. 5million naira, but the company could not meet up with the deadline given it by the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and therefore could not import the products and thus, was not paid a kobo.
The management of the Company wrote a protest letter to the Farouk Lawan’s committee where it stated that, “……… due to circumstances beyond our control we were unable to deliver the said cargo in Q3 2011, we applied for an extension from PPRA, which was declined. Subsequently, we went ahead to CANCEL our Letters of Credit and form M. We also did not qualify or collect any subsidy under the schemes”.
From the revelations, it was discovered that the smear campaign against Aigboje is the handiwork of the powerful cabal stealing the nation blind in order to rubbish the Presidential Committee’s report and escape from justice. But our source in Aso Rock said President Jonathan is bent on punishing the oil thieves who will be arrested any moment from now.

Imo LG crisis: AGF orders Okorocha to reinstate sacked chairmen

Federal Government, yesterday, ordered Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha to comply with the judgment of the Court of Appeal by reinstating the sacked local government chairmen and councillors  in the state.

Earlier, the refusal by the Okorocha-led All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) government to obey the ruling of the appellate court had sparked off crisis in the state. However, in a terse statement in Abuja,  the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN), ordered the reinstatement of the sacked chairmen, who were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic  Party (PDP) under  the administration of former governor Ikedi Ohakim.

The  four paragraph press statement read: “The attention of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has been drawn to the lingering controversy that has trailed the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Owerri Judicial Division in Appeal  No. CA/OW/215/2011, Enyinna Onuegbu & 26 Ors v. Attorney General of Imo State & 3 Ors dated 5th July 2012, which declared as illegal and unconstitutional, the action of the governor of Imo State, purporting to dissolve the democratically elected local government councils in the state before the expiration of their constitutionally guaranteed tenure.

“It is apposite to note that section 7 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, guarantees the existence of a system of democratically elected local government councils throughout the federation. The judgment of the Court of Appeal aforementioned has only confirmed this position. “I therefore call on all concerned to respect the judgment of the Court of Appeal and give due regard to the provisions of the constitution which all elected officials of government have sworn to uphold. This will not only inspire confidence in the polity, but will also deepen our fledgling democracy.

“In the light of the foregoing and in consonance with this administration’s avowed commitment to the enthronement of the rule of law in the federation, I hereby call on Imo State Government and all relevant agencies of government to abide by the judgment of the Court of Appeal and ensure that the judgment is given its full effect.”

The Court of Appeal, had on July 4, 2012,  in a unanimous judgment ordered Okorocha to reinstate the 27 local government chairmen and councillors he sacked.

The court, presided over by Justice Uwani Abbaji, held that the governor lacked the powers to sack elected officials at the third tier of government. The court also nullified the appointment of transition committee chairmen by the governor to replace the sacked council chairmen.

Okorocha had, in his maiden broadcast in June 2011, announced the sacking of the elected council chairmen, and later appointed transitional committee chairmen to run the 27 council areas in the state. But the council chairmen challenged their removal from office in an Owerri High Court, arguing that the governor had no constitutional power to sack them.

Consequently, the court of first instance, presided over by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Benjamin Njemanze, held that the governor lacked the powers to remove the chairmen from office.

It was a moment for spiritual refreshing and reflection on the need for Christians to financially contribute to the work of the ministry. The recent annual breakfast meeting tagged: Ministers and Supporters Forum, was organized by Scripture Union Nigeria (SU), Lagos Area.

The event attracted many notable men of God at Villa Park Hotels and Suite Ltd, Industrial Estate, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos. Some of them included the Area Chairman, Pastor Kola Fasoranti; Pastor Osondu Anyalechi, Pastor Amechi Udeze, both senior pastors, Evangel Pentecostal Church; Mr. and Mrs. Femi Adesina and Elder Francis Onwuchekwa.

One of the key issues discussed was the need for believers to ensure that the business of God prospers. They were encouraged to support the underprivileged youths. The Traveling Secretary, Gbenga Ige, gave a breakdown of the money spent and the ones needed to reach out to numerous youths in the environs. He expressed hope that SU would be able to raise N5.5M in the next one year if the set goals must be met. In addition they were asked to watch some clips on the plight of the youths.

In his exhortation entitled, I have A Command To Bless, Pastor Dimgba Igwe, the Former Deputy Managing Director of The Sun Publishing Limited, stressed the need for believers to support Scripture Union for the advancement of the gospel. Pastor Igwe, who was the chairman on the occasion, said it was an opportunity for Christians to invest in God’s work through the SU, which according to him, is a fertile ground.

“The Bible tells us that we are together in God’s vineyard. God is a Spirit and Spirit cannot wear coat, distribute scripture or write but He does that through you. As you partner with SU, you are partnering with God. SU is just a vehicle. If you do this, you will find out that in your private business, God will teach you how to make wealth. In the ministry of the kingdom, when it is toughest, that is when the Lord requires most of your love. That is the best time to partner with the Lord.”

Also, Pastor Tunde Fowe of Family Impact Ministry stated five important things to observe as Christians even as the Macedonian church did as regards giving. Fowe said, “They gave generously, regardless of circumstances, without coercion, as a privilege and as service to God.”

Chairperson, SU, Lagos Area, Mrs. Ifeanyichukwu Anyalechi, who is also the Procurement Manager of The Sun Publishing Ltd, said the event was meant to attract Christians who were passionate about reaching out to the young generation for Christ and for building a better society.  According to her, “A time of fellowship, mutual sharing and celebration as we recall the past and get informed about the

NYSC members who feel unsafe are free to ask for redeployment –Affia, DG

•Okorie-Affia
In the face of recent altercation and even accusation that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is forcing corp members to serve in volatile areas, the Director-General, Brigadier-General N.T. Okorie-Affia spoke with some media men to put the records straight. Daily Sun was represented. Below are excerpts:

Since the 2011 elections, security has been the main issue with NYSC. What else are you doing to ensure safety of corps members?  As I said before, we believe corps members can only serve their country when they are alive and safe. We are doing a lot to ensure that corps members are safe and that they feel safe from the camps, through their primary assignment to their passing out, and not just in those volatile states but all over the country. We have doubled security personnel at the orientation camps. We have increased number of armed soldiers, mobile policemen, SSS operatives and members of the Civil Defence Corps in the orientation camps across the country.

After orientation, we give the location of the lodges of corps members to the State Police Command, the State Security Service and the civil defence corps so that they would easily know where to go to in case of emergency involving corps members. We are also partnering more intensely with the state governments and they have been very responsive.

We have also set up a distress call centre where corps members in distress can call in to receive help on time. We have started training corps members in self-defence and we also issue security tips to them for them to understand their environment, where not to go, and how to conduct themselves in a security-conscious way.
Q: There is a growing concern that NYSC is more interested in deploying corps members than in ensuring their safety…

A: No. That is not a fair comment. We want corps members to be safe, and we are doing everything possible to ensure their safety. It is only when corps members are alive that they can render service to the country. So, their safety comes first. It is non-negotiable. Even when our mandate is to equitably distribute our manpower in all the states of the Federation, we are not unmindful of the security challenges in some parts of the country. And that is why we have not held orientation exercises in both Borno and Yobe states since November last year because of the peculiar situations in those places.

But there was a recent uproar because of deployment of corps members to these same states…  The uproar could have been occasioned by two things. One factor could be the upsurge of violence in some states around the time people received their call-up letters. And the other could be due to misunderstanding. It is true that the call-up letters of some corps members read Borno and Yobe states.

But it is just to ensure adherence to the law that stipulates equitable distribution of corps manpower. It does not mean that those corps members were heading for Yobe and Borno states.   The orientation for those two states will take place in Nassarrawa and Benue: Borno State will hold its orientation in Benue State and Yobe State will hold its orientation in Nassarrawa State. After the orientation, it is only corps members who insist on going to those states that will be posted there.

That has been clarified. But we also have five additional states where we give corps members the option to redeploy if they feel unsafe. These are Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau and Kano. We also identify some particularly volatile local government areas that we don’t send corps members to for primary assignments.

After the sad events of April 2011, there have been calls for NYSC to be scrapped. Has the scheme not truly outlived its usefulness?  NYSC is still useful and still relevant. What happened last year is regrettable. Our hearts continue to go to those who lost loved ones. But that tragedy should make us do more to guarantee the security of corps members. The fact that we have security challenges now should not make us overlook the need for national unity and integration. More than ever before, that need is still there. It is also true that NYSC might not have been adapted to the changing times. This calls for reform, not abolition.

We must not be deterred by prevailing circumstances to give up on the dreams and aspirations of our founding fathers. But we are also not unmindful of the peculiar moment we live in and we cannot put any corps member in harm’s way. We will do our best to make corps members secure. But we want to urge Nigerians to believe that if we stand up as one, we can overcome this scourge and reclaim our nation for us all and for posterity.

You Mentioned the NYSC Distress Call Centre. How does that work?  It is IT-based. When corps members are deployed for primary assignment their full data such as names, state codes, places of primary assignment, and addresses of security agencies within that area are sent by the state coordinators to the headquarters. It is then uploaded into our system. One of the major pieces of information that we request from corps members is their phone numbers so that when the corps member calls with that particular number his or her data page will appear on the screen including the place of primary assignment.

Immediately, we can identify the contact of the security agency within that place and then we relay the distress call to them.  The Distress Call Centre was commissioned by the former Minister of Youth Development in February this year. It has been in operations since then. Corps members have sent us complaints of the general type, but we are yet to receive any real distress call. But the facility is there to ensure that corps members who are in distress anywhere in the country can receive help and on time. All corps members have the number.

It seems corps members are now less loved than before… I won’t say so because we have gone to some communities where primary healthcare delivery and education sectors depend solely on NYSC manpower and these communities are most appreciative of the presence of corps members. Each year we have presidential honours awards ceremony for corps member who have executed projects beneficial to their host communities nationwide.

One of the criteria is that you must serve in a state other than your own for your project to be considered for presentation. This means that corps members are still doing their best to win the hearts and mind of their host communities.

So what is being done to reform the NYSC? A lot is being done to reposition the scheme to give more value to the participating corps members and to the country at large. We have expanded the scope of our skills acquisition programme. More time in the orientation time-table is now dedicated to skills acquisitions and entrepreneurship development. The aim is to empower corps members to employ themselves and others after their service year.

We also have the war against poverty initiative which is part of the MDG poverty reduction goal and we give interest-free loans to interested corps members to start their own small scale businesses. We want to empower them to be self-reliant and if they start businesses that succeed, those corps members will by extension require extra hands and the multiplier effect will pull more people out from the unemployment market.

To also ensure that corps members serve with dignity and contribute more to the country, we now post them to only four sectors for primary assignment: agriculture, education, health and infrastructure. This posting policy, which we started with Batch A 2012, was designed to bring back the concept of national service into the youth service

The Nigerian music scene which is saturated with hip-hop culture may soon be enlivened with a refreshing rhythm that would be shaped by Ashley Stephanie. Here is why! When you think of Ashley Stephanie’s rhythm, the name that readily comes to your mind is Awilo Longomba, the Congolese musician, and possibly, the impact he made on the Nigerian music scene at the dawn of this millennium. It is so easy to understand why; both of them have the same kind of beat; the only difference is that Stephanie does not have the effervescence (judging from her voice) that made Awilo the unpredictable performer he is. But she can leave some indelible imprints. Her promo musical recording which has two songs, Ale Ale and Coup de Kales would gladly satisfy a cross sec-tion of the music audience, begin-ning from people who love to dance and those who want a rhythm that is richly Afr

Why Edo people voted for Oshiomhole – Palace chief

image
A member of the Benin Traditional Council (BTC) has explained why residents of Edo State voted over-whelmingly for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) against the Peoples Demo-cratic Party (PDP) in last Saturday’s governorship election. According to the Eson of Benin Kingdom, Chief Amos Osunbor, the people of Edo State felt that the PDP did not perform in its over eight years in power. Osunbor said the voting pattern and results of the election showed the peo-ple’s anger against “those who regarded themselves as the godfathers and fixers of politics in the state.” He said: “The results of the recently conducted election in Edo State spe-cifically sent a message to Chief Tony Anenih from Edo people that they are fed up with him. It also clearly told him that he should re-locate either by moving to another party or quitting politics entirely. The gov-ernorship election of July 14th clearly showed that the stronghold of Chief Tony Anenih, which is Edo Central Senatorial District, was won by the ACN, leav-ing the PDP without any local council.” The chief added that what the Edo people unam-biguously demonstrated was a lesson that the peo-ple of all the other states should take into consider-ation. He said: “It is the first election that the police, soldiers and other security agents carried out their assigned duties without interfering with the elec-tion. ACN won in all the 18 local government areas because Edo people wanted a change.
The people were fed up with PDP and they got the change they desired when Oshiomhole came. And with the job he has done for the past four years, they vowed not to disrupt his avowed intention to transform the state.”
Osunbor noted that the Bini agenda that was intro-duced to Edo politics failed woefully because “We told the people that we don’t believe in tribal politics, but on a candidate who will develop Edo State.
We will support whoever de-velops our state. We have had Bini man in charge of affairs of the state and he did nothing.”
He, however, advised the PDP candidate, Ma-Gen. Charles Airhavbere, to be courageous to accept the result and embrace the winner.
The chief also praised voters for rejecting mon-etary inducement against their conscience.
Meanwhile, the Con-gress of Progressive Change (CPC) has con-gratulated Oshiomhole for his victory at the poll.
In a statement by the CPC National Public-ity Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, the party said it was satisfied with Osh-iomhole’s victory.
The statement reads: “The CPC has noted with satisfaction the victory of Adams Oshiomhole at the just concluded governor-ship election in Edo state.
“The party hereby con-gratulates the governor for successfully warding off the electoral tantrums and rigging stratagems of the PDP and its leader-ship.
“Indeed, the landslide victory aptly captures the satisfaction of the Edo people with the merito-rious service of the last four years and affirms the people’s confidence in his leadership.
“Undoubtedly, this re-election comes with additional responsibility for greater commitment to service.

Early surgery may benefit some with heart infection

eople with an advanced form of a heart infection called endocarditis may do better if they undergo early surgery than if they are treated with antibiotics initially, a new study suggests.
Infective or bacterial endocarditis occurs when bacteria settles in the heart lining or heart valve. In advanced cases, the abnormal bacterial growth, often called vegetation, can be large enough to break off and travel elsewhere in the body, such as to the brain, where it may cause a stroke. Advanced infective endocarditis can also damage the heart valve.
People with existing heart disease or heart-valve problems are most likely to develop endocarditis.
In a new study published June 28 in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers evaluated close to 80 people, average age 47, with advanced infective endocarditis.
Of these, 37 had early surgery within 48 hours of their diagnosis, and 39 received conventional therapy with antibiotics while they were monitored to see if the infection abated. Thirty people placed in the conventional treatment group eventually had surgery.
Early surgery reduced the risk of developing an embolism (or clot) and did not increase the risk of in-hospital death, the study showed.
After six months, the rate of adverse events, including death, repeat hospitalisation for congestive heart failure or a recurrence of endocarditis, was three per cent in the early-surgery group versus 28 per cent in the conventionally treated patients.
“Early surgery can be the preferred option to further improve clinical outcomes of infective endocarditis, which is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality,” said study author Dr. Duk-Hyun Kang, a cardiologist at University of Ulsan College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea.

Gov poll: Forged INEC ID, fake voter cards flood Edo

INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday in Benin confirmed the existence of fake voter cards and fake INEC staff identity cards in circulation.
The state governorship poll will hold on Saturday.
Incumbent governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, alleged that the fake voter cards, copies of which he displayed at the INEC meeting with stakeholders, were procured by the opposition.
“I can confirm that the ID cards and voter cards are fake. The PIN numbers on them are different from what we have. We will make photocopies of these and give them to security officers. Those caught with them will be prosecuted and made to face the wrath of the law,” Jega told the stakeholders.
The INEC boss said polling officials had been instructed to ensure that photographs on voter cards tallied with photographs on the voter register.
“Anyone who comes with a fake card or a card that does not belong to him will be handed over to the police. We are insisting that the face on the ID card corresponds to the face on the register. We are doing our best. There will be a lot of apprehension and arrest of those using fake cards,” he said.
He said there had been deliberate efforts by some politicians and their agents to divert the attention of the commission through spurious alerts to INEC websites and mobile telephones.
Jega said that some persons had been arrested in connection with the sale of voter cards in the state.
“Photocopies of voter cards are not allowed and if a voter doesn’t have the original, he has no reason to be present at the polling booth.
“There’s no excuse for the purchase of cards. We have such information and some arrests have been made and be assured that we will prosecute them’’, Jega said.
He noted that to stop dishonesty in the electoral process, only customised boxes would be used, adding that if any box was moved from one area to the other, elections in the area would be cancelled.
Oshiomhole, who is re-contesting on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, had drawn the attention of Jega to the existence of the fake identity cards and fake voter cards allegedly being made by some politicians to cause confusion and take advantage on Election Day.
Oshiomhole gave copies of the alleged fake cards to the INEC chairman, who examined them and declared them fake after consulting with the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Kassim Gaidam.
The governor said, “We have intelligence reports that a political party with a history of rigging in this state has procured army and police uniforms to rig elections on Saturday.
“The problem with us in this country is not making laws, but complying with them. These Identity Cards are already in circulation and we leave it for the security agencies to handle’’.
He urged INEC and the security agencies to investigate and publicly announce those found culpable, adding that they must be punished.
“If these people are Action Congress of Nigeria’s members, publish their names, if they are Peoples Democratic Party members, publish their names because I do not see why these issues should be shrouded in secrecy.”
He maintained that to ensure credible poll, all party agents, security personnel and INEC officials must be in the same vehicle monitoring election materials to prevent them from being tampered with.
“They are producing these materials in large numbers, including voter cards and that is the more reason the INEC should be on the alert and make sure all these materials are rendered useless on Saturday.’’
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Maj. Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (retd.), also alleged that fake voter cards were being mass produced by some political parties to be given to people that would be imported to vote on Election Day.
“Cloning of voter cards is going on so that when the original owners don’t come they will bring people from neighbouring states to take over those cards and vote for their candidate,” Airhiavbere said.
He equally alleged that ex-Niger Delta militants had been hired to cause trouble on Election Day and urged the security agencies to take note and check them.

Portsmouth planning to punish Kanu

Nwankwo Kanu
Portsmouth are considering punishing former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu for his continued absence from club activities while he stays in Nigeria.
The veteran striker missed training for a second day on Tuesday as his teammates took part in a double session at Fratton Park.
The reason for Kanu’s action is yet unclear to the club which he led to an FA Cup victory in 2008.
However, with negotiations having stalled over the £300,000 it is claimed he is demanding – by way of a compromise agreement – to rip up the final 12 months of his Blues contract, it appears he has opted to take drastic action.
That has left administrator Trevor Birch echoing Michael Appleton’s intention to punish Kanu for his failure to attend training.
And Pompey’s administrator is also threatening to call in the Professional Footballers’ Association if Kanu’s training boycott continues.
Birch said, “Kanu is back in Nigeria, that is the understanding from his legal adviser, who I have been speaking to. I don’t actually know why he hasn’t come back. You will have to phone him and ask him.
“What I do know, though, is we have not reached a compromise and he was due back on Monday along with the rest of the contracted players. Then he just didn’t turn up.
“I was down at the training ground both Monday and yesterday (Tuesday) and Michael Appleton is very angry, which is understandable.
“Kanu must turn up for training, or this is a breach of contract.
“Whether it is sufficient enough to terminate his contract I don’t know at this stage, we will have to wait and see.
“He will have to be disciplined, though. What we intend to do is an internal matter. I cannot talk about that.
“However, if it is a continued absence we will have to bring in the PFA.”
Kanu, along with the rest of his team-mates from last season, agreed to wage deferrals in April.
Currently operating at a £5,000-a-week ceiling, players will receive any outstanding monies upon their departure.
A takeover would also see the deferrals settled in full.
Pompey’s longest-serving player lost money when the club previously went into administration in 2010.
Two years ago, Kanu renegotiated a one-year deal at £40,000 a week to be spread over a three-year contract, thereby helping the club.
With Kanu clearly having no future at Fratton Park, Pompey have been desperate to reach a compromise agreement with him since last season reached to a close.
Birch has claimed the FA Cup Final hero has wanted £300,000 to leave the club, which led to much criticism.

How Nike Oshinowo And Hubby, Tunde Soleye Were Chased Out Of Aso-Rock

In the late ’90s and even up to the early 2006, Nike Oshinowo used to be the darling of the ‘Paparazzi’ on account of her unrivalled style statement. She was practically the face of every known high-end fashion house. Her style statements were legendary; in fact so prominent was her style that she singlehandedly brought to the consciousness of other fashionable women the fascinating works of super-duper designer Deola Sagoe’s Odua Creations.
So mind-blowing were Deola’s custom-made outfits for Nike that she stole the show party after party and sashayed her way into the super A-list style icons list. She had told a fashion magazine 10 years ago when she graced their cover that she was a Christian Louboutin freak. This was at a time when most Nigerian women hadn’t even heard of the celebrity shoemaker to stars like Victoria Beckham, JLO, Sarah Jessica Parker, etc. Without any visible means of livelihood, this stunning beauty bought couture fashion like pure water.
When she met Dr. Soleye who was a filthy rich spendthrift, she knew she had hit gold. They lived a 5-star lifestyle and the bill was insane. Both in Nigeria and abroad, it had to be grandeur so it wasn’t surprising when Soleye got broke and was almost thrown out of Transcorp Hilton Abuja, a place that had come to be his Abuja home for years. After the death of Stella Obasanjo whom Nike was close to, they plotted their way to the late Yar’Adua’s household via Turai, the indefatigable first lady. By this time Nike was very threatened in the best-dressed list as they were now so many mega rich big girls that couture fashion was now a common language amongst them. So she had stop owning functions, rather she got absorbed into them whenever she arrived at parties. Soleye himself who spent money like it was going out of fashion also needed to regain his financial strength. They got a prominent Nigerian who introduced them to TuraiYar’Adua.
The president was very sick at the time, Nike and Tunde came up with a proposal to the first lady that the fun-loving Dr. Soleye could make available to Mr. President some drugs that would greatly accentuate his health and put him in a better condition. The deal was sealed and the reward for the duo should the president get better was a huge oil deal. \
Gathered that both made a list of urgent luxury needs they would pick up as soon as the president got better, but like a flash in a horror movie, after the late Yar’Adua took the medication things went from bad to worse. In fact he went into a dreadful coma. Turai was mad with them as all Soleye had promised concerning the late president fell flat. They lost face completely at the Villa and in top government circles where they were used to hobnobbing. This incidence was an open secret amongst most society men and women even with the exit of Turai from the state house. And with the arrival of a new first family it would not be long before they successfully hatch a plot that would see them land it big again. The fashionista who loves to visit Senegal for very obvious reasons knows she needs her glory days back.
Had she launched her Asabi fragrance 12 years ago, it would have sold faster than French luxury: Hermes Birkin handbag, but fashion wise she is hardly on top now and debutantes are looking elsewhere for inspiration.
